Equal Standing Position (Samasthiti) represents: Beginnings. The position is an Invitation. An invitation to “Come To the Present Momentâ€. Equal Standing Position is a stand alone posture with growth ability. It is a primary position with the ability to grow into various other yoga poses and is commonly used in sequence practice. It can be found at the beginning and middle of yoga sequences (series, styles of yoga practice).
There are many holistic, natural benefits from practicing this fundamental, primary position. Benefits are based on consistent practice. Consistent practice meaning: practice without long periods of interruptions.

Firms Core Muscles and Buttocks
Helps to Harmonize the Mind, Body and Spirit
Improves Blood Circulation
Increase Energy Level
Calms the Nervous System

Engages all Three Bandha’s (inner energy lock system)
Creates aligned pathway for inner energy to flow smoothly and evenly
To mindfully move into Equal Standing position:
Inhale: Stand face to the Sun, Feet parallel to each other.
Exhale: Toes spread wide.
Inhale: Lift kneecaps by contracting the thigh muscles
Exhale: Relax buttocks muscles
Inhale: Big belly breath. Chest lifts, Heart opens
Exhale: Relax arms down sides of body (side bodies), Palms of hands rest against outer thighs, Fingers together.
Inhale: The neck lengthens
Exhale: Release. Shoulders blades glide down the back.
Inhale: Chin parallel with the ground.
Exhale: Feet pressed firmly onto the ground. Thighs contracted.
Inhale: Full, deep breath. Crown of the head floats up – maintain position -
Exhale: Gently close the mouth.
Breathing is natural. In and out through the nose.
Eyes open or Closed. Focused on ONE point.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Stay as long as you like.
When finished, please take a full, conscious inhalation and with the exhalation, take a moment to bow:
